Johnny Ray Redfear Sr., 72, of Troutman, N.C., passed away on March 31, 2025, unexpectedly with his loving wife Nora Redfear of 43 years by his side.

Preceding Johnny in death were his son, Kimberly Alexander; his father, Robert Lee Redfear; mother, Mary Elizabeth Torrence; stepfather, Mason Torrence; brothers, Donald Wayne Rickett and Billy Phifer; and sister, Rachael Phifer; and three grandchildren, Kenan Omaray Alexander, Jarrod Christian Alexander, and Dominique Cole Alexander.

Johnny Ray was born April 23, 1952, in Mooresville, N.C., the son of Robert Lee Redfear and Mary Torrence (Campbell). Johnny attended Dunbar High School in Mooresville, N.C.

Johnny married Nora (Shipp) on January 1, 1982, at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mooresville. They were married for 43 years, raising seven children together during their marriage.

Remaining to cherish Johnny’s memory are spouse, Nora Redfear; children, Jarrod (Robin) Alexander of Huntersville, Chunell (Anthony) Norman of Mooresville, Johnny (Kesha) Redfear Jr. of Mooresville, Tangy (Derrick) Coleman of Huntersville, Kateaka (Rasheed) Brown of Davidson, and Nykema (Lakisha) Alexander of Salisbury; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Mike (Judy) Redfear of Statesville, Moena (Ronald) Mayhew, Norma (Mike) Gallmon, and Emory (Lori) Redfear, all of Mooresville, Bonnie Redfear, Kenny Redfear and Robin Redfear, all of Maryland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Johnny worked as a Maintenance Technician for the Mooresville Graded School District for 28 years until he retired in 2010.

Johnny especially loved his family, fishing, coaching AAU Basketball, and his Duke Blue Devil men’s basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball.

Johnny held the positions of Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church located in Kannapolis, N.C., and was dedicated to his church.

The visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 3 p.m. The visitation and funeral service will be held at Fairview United Methodist Church, 1430 Mecklenburg Hwy., Mooresville, NC 28115 with Pastor Steven Boyd officiating and Rev. Emory Redfear Sr. eulogist. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church located at 6280 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

The family will be accepting visitors at 428 S. Main Street, Troutman, NC 28166.

Memorial donations in Johnny’s memory may be directed to Novant Health Cancer Institute (Mooresville).
