Larry Reid Morgan of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on April 23, 2025, at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital.
Reid was born September 13,1933, in Rowan County, the fourth child of the late Lee Roy and Mable Katherine Karriker Morgan. He served his country in the Army and was deployed to Korea and later sent to Japan. He was a graduate of China Grove High School and Salisbury Business College. Reid worked at Presbyterian Hospital. He retired from his job as business office manager after 27 years and then worked two more years before fully retiring from Alexander Community Hospital. During his lifetime, he served the communities in which he lived in various ways. In his younger years he was an active member of the Cornelius Jaycees, participating in fundraisers and softball. He was the favorite to apply clown make-up for the Cornelius carnival dunking booth. He coached youth sports and helped with the Mt. Zion UMC youth groups. He returned to his childhood church at St. Luke’s Lutheran and actively served on the church council and in other church activities.
He was full of life and always had a funny story or joke to share; he never met a stranger. He loved music and entertaining at his home on Lake Norman. Over the years, he taught numerous people to water ski and perfected the art of barbequing; his secret barbeque sauce was eagerly received each time he made a batch in his homemade pit! He had a gift for being able to fix anything. He was creative and inventive, making life easier for those in need. Those qualities earned him the title of “Mr. Fix It.”
He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jack; sisters Doris Sims and Louise St. Clair; son Stephen Reid Sr.; grandson Stephen Reid Jr.; and great granddaughter MacKenzie Morgan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 70 years Margaret Null Morgan; daughters Cindy Morgan and Crystle Lineberger; grandsons Jamie Morgan (Keesha) and Carson Lineberger (Erica); granddaughters Holly Andrews, Morgan Andrews (Justin Christenbery), Onnie Basinger (Joseph), Brittney Duggan, Tiffany Duggan, and Jessica Morgan; sister Ganelda Gusler (Tom); and brothers Don Morgan (Sally) and Wayne Morgan. He also leaves behind 22 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also remembering him are his faithful dog Millie and neighbors who became family by choice.
