Mary Joyce Rogers Souther, 80, of Mooresville, N.C., gained her angel’s wings on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.
She was born on June 29, 1944, in Haywood County, N.C., to the late Troy Sylvester Rogers and Mary Greene Rogers. Mrs. Souther was a 1963 graduate of Troutman High School. She worked at Roses in Mooresville for 16 years and then worked at Eckerd Drugs in Cornelius. Mrs. Souther was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, especially her tomatoes and flowers. She loved to bake and decorate cakes. She made many of her family members’ as well as bonus family members’ and friends’ wedding cakes and birthday cakes. She loved her family and spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Lee Rogers; and nephew, Chris McElveen.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elmer Lee Souther; daughters, Melody Mangum and husband Ronnie, Melinda Souther; grandson, Casey Mangum; sister, Bernice Stevenson; brother, Troy E. Rogers and wife Donna; special nieces and nephews who were like her own children and guided them with tough love; numerous great and great-great nieces, nephews; and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Karriker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
