Reid Alexander Tomlin peacefully passed away on January 18, 2025 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., after a few years of declining health.

Reid was born March 1, 1937, to James A. Tomlin and Beulah Campbell Tomlin.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his oldest sister, Ella Jane Tomlin Burris.

On January 6, 1957, he married his girl, Glenda White Tomlin, with whom he enjoyed 68 years of making memories together.

Left to cherish his love and memories are one daughter, Cynthia Tomlin Marshall; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy Reid Tomlin (Dianne Jones Tomlin) and Bradley Morris Tomlin (Kristie Walker Tomlin).

Reid was Pawpaw to five granddaughters, Jodi T. Woods (Andrew), Jamie M. Deal (Brad), Ashley Tomlin, Dana M. Marin (Daniel), and Abigail T. Matthews (Cole); two grandsons, Jeremy Mobley (Lydia) and Bradley Mobley (Annie); six great grandsons, Dakota York, Hunter Tomlin, Mason Mobley, twins, Lane and Levi Marin, and Bryson Mobley; six great granddaughters, Addison Hancock, Molly Mobley, Eleanor Deal, Mallory Mobley and Sutton Matthews; and three sisters, Margaret Tomlin Johnson, Bessie Tomlin Josey and Doris Tomlin Childers. He was Uncle Reid to many nieces and nephews.

Reid was a lifelong, active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He was a charter member of the Cool Spring Ruritan Club and was honored in December with the honor of being a lifelong Ruritan member with the Ruritan Forever Program.

Reid graduated from Cool Spring High school in 1956. He received a certificate for electrician and welding from Mitchell Community College. Reid worked at Carnation Milk Company and then worked for J.C. Steele & Sons for 40 years as a Machinist, Foreman and field representative, where he traveled and represented the company around the world. His love for farming on the Tomlin Farms was his special place, whether he was on the tractor, feeding cows, making hay with his boys. The boys continue the legacy of Tomlin Farm LLC.

Genesis 1:31 says God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. Reid was a good man.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers from Sherrie’s In-Home Care and Gordon Hospice House for their excellent care and love.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Terry Myers. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
