Rhonda Annette Thompson, 63, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital surrounded by love.

Born on February 20, 1962, in Lexington, N.C., Rhonda was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, partner, grandmother, and friend.

Her life was a reflection of quiet strength, steady compassion, and boundless generosity. She had a heart that never hesitated to give and a spirit that found joy in the simple, beautiful things — watching hummingbirds and butterflies in the garden, marveling at blooming flowers, and spending tender moments with her beloved dog, Coco.

But Rhonda wasn’t just gentle—she was fierce. She had a fire in her soul that showed up in her loyalty, her protectiveness, and her determination to stand up for the people she loved. She could speak her mind with passion and conviction, and she never backed down when something mattered. Her fiery attitude was part of what made her so unforgettable — she loved hard, fought hard, and never gave less than her whole heart.

Rhonda found her greatest joy in family. She is survived by her loving partner, Felma Norman; her two children, Jason Thompson and Stacy (Drew) Norman; her cherished grandson, Derek Thompson; her brother, Ronnie Vestal and wife Molly Vestal; three nieces, Joni and Dustin Thompson, Bekah and Raul Benitez, and Crystal Berryman; two nephews, Micheal and Michelle Vestal and Justin Berryman; along with many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who each held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by many beloved family members who now welcome her with open arms, including her mom, Charlotte (Shirley) Fritche; her dad, Junior Vestal; her grandparents, Jonie and Bessie Vestal; Wesley and Diane Vestal; Billy Vestal; Leo Vestal; her aunt and riding buddy, Mary and Jerry Suits; and her nephew, Chris Berryman.

Rhonda had a gift for connection—always keeping up with those she loved, always checking in, always caring. She had a generous nature, always putting others before herself and stepping in to help wherever she could. So many friends looked up to Rhonda as a second mom—someone they could turn to for strength, honesty, and unconditional love.

Her warmth, her laugh, her fierce loyalty, and her vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
