Robert Edward Terry, known lovingly as “Bunk,” “Dadaddy,” or “Grandaddy,” titles that reflect the roles he held closest, passed peacefully at the age of 96 on April 22, 2025.
Born on December 9, 1928, Bunk dedicated his life to creating an atmosphere built on his selflessness, stability, and strength for those he loved.
In 1956, following his service in the U.S. Navy, Bunk met Ann Faulkenberry and married the love of his life. Together they had three children, to whom Bunk passed on his resilience and wit. After settling in Charlotte, N.C., Bunk established a reputation as a man of faith and family. He started a career at City Chevrolet in Uptown Charlotte in 1960 that led to a 40-year career. Throughout their marriage, Ann and Bunk were able to travel the world, while remaining devoted and founding members of Trinity Baptist Church.
Bunk was a Master Mason member of the East Gate Lodge since 1955, as well as a member of the Omar Shrine Temple.
In his later years, Bunk and Ann moved to Lake Norman to enjoy the gorgeous views, and the company of those he treasured. He will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, never failing to turn any situation into one of satirical beauty, and his unfailing dedication to those whom he loved and to those who loved him.
Bunk is survived by his loving wife, Ann Terry; his three children, Robert “Robbie” Terry (Kellie), Jeffrey “Todd” Terry (Angela), and Luanne Terry Luke (Tony); his five grandchildren, Robert “Tripp” Terry III (Kathleen), Jeffrey Terry Jr., Taylor Terry, Michael Luke (Jessica), and Hannah Luke; and his three great grandchildren, Libba, Robert “Bert,” and Max.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
