Robert “Bob” John Mack, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at home in the company of his family.

He was born October 13, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Edmund and Mary Mack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Byrne.

Throughout his long life, Bob was always involved in his church, whether it was as a Eucharistic minister, lector, or an altar server. He enjoyed collecting stamps, traveling, reading science magazines, being a member of the local Fraternal Order of Police, and spending time with his family.

Bob was often found with a video camera in his hand and he recorded hundreds of hours of his family having fun together, which will be treasured forever. He entertained friends and family by telling stories of his travels, and he loved talking about his many patents for everyday products (like diapers, band-aids, and toothpaste tubes) from his time working at the Kendall Company and Colgate Palmolive in Research and Development. He could often be found sitting outside and enjoying his beautiful lake view, especially in the warmer months. He loved to go for walks and always noticed the various animals and flowers around his house and neighborhood.

More than anything, Bob relished visits from his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even as he got older, he could still be found playing on the floor, reading books, and being silly to make the kids laugh. Bob appreciated outings with his family, whether it was a trip to the aquarium, a museum, the zoo, or the science center. He also enjoyed driving his boat around the lake with family and friends and going out to eat for a fish dinner or a steak (with milk to drink!). He will always be remembered as a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Bob leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his descendants, including his sons, David Mack and wife Laura of Algonquin, Ill., Robert Mack and wife Margaret of Sayreville, N.J.; daughters, Kathlyn Mack of Mooresville, N.C., Alyson Mack of Asheboro, N.C., and Jennifer Shundich and husband Andrew of Statesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Coursey and wife Joanna, Daniel Coursey and wife Samantha, Jonas Mack and wife Abby, Nina Mack, Asher Shundich, and Rosalie Shundich; great-grandchildren, Vivian, Connor, Lincoln, Eli, Aubrey, Caleb, Elliotte, and Olive; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the Hospice nurses, hospital staff, and friends for their compassion and supportive care. We would like to offer a special thanks to Bob’s dedicated aides, including Christy and Autumn Quesenberry and Morgan Wagner, who assisted him during the last year of his life and became part of our family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
