Ronald “Jimmy” Gibson Johnson, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., after a long and fulfilling life. Born on March 23, 1939, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late William Vance Johnson and Edna Vaudrell Gibson Johnson.

Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Billie Patterson Johnson, whose love and support were a cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his loving children, David C. Johnson (Yevette), Karen Johnson Wheeler (Dean), and Kathe Johnson French. His legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren, Lisa Duncan (Jonathan), Timothy Johnson, Heather Tate (Kasey), Maria Wheeler (Tiffany), and Melissa Wheeler, along with his beloved great-grandchildren, Cameron Duncan, Jamie Tate, Ella Tate, Harper Tate, Dallas Tate, and Brittany Smith. Ron will also be remembered by a host of extended family members and dear friends.

A dedicated veteran, Ron served honorably in the U.S. National Guard. Ron was a respected business owner, having founded Amity Finance in Downtown Mooresville, where he was committed to helping others achieve their financial goals. His passion for gardening was evident in his years of dedication to growing pumpkins, often cultivating the largest varieties and proudly selling them from his front yard.

Ron was a pillar of his community, passionately committed to economic development and prosperity in Iredell County. His contributions were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication. Throughout his career, he held numerous leadership positions, including roles with the Mooresville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce, the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation, the Mooresville Downtown Commission, the Mooresville Christmas Parade, and the South Iredell Community Development Board.

In addition to his professional achievements, Ron had a true love for storytelling, captivating those around him with his engaging tales and infectious laughter. His warm and hearty laugh was a hallmark of his personality, bringing light and joy to every gathering. Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and community service that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In honor of Ron’s remarkable life, funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. The family invites everyone to join them in celebrating his life and sharing in their memories. Following the service, friends and family will gather to receive visitors from 4 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
