Ronney Lee Moten Jr., 66, of Charlotte, N.C., was born November 24, 1958, in Iredell County to the late Ronnie Moten Sr. and Junnie Rogers Moten. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Novant Huntersville Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Moten attended Iredell County Schools and lived in Statesville for many years before relocating to Lumberton, N.C., and then to Charlotte, N.C. His wife of 38 years, Anita Diane Lackey Moten, preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his step mother, Mary Jane Bellamy Moten; his uncles, Clarence Moten and Eugene McClelland; aunt, Martha Jones; sister, Lois Moten Click; and nephew, Chad Click.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life two sons, Ronnie Lee (Kristy) Moten III of Mooresville, N.C., and James Maurice Moten of Charlotte; and a daughter, Latoya Lackey (Darrell) Peterson of Statesville; sister, Ruthie Ann Wilson of Denver, N.C., and Susan Bellamy (Bobby) Morrison of Charlotte; uncles, Herbert Bellamy, Beaufort (Betty) Bellamy, Willie Bellamy and Walter Bellamy; aunts, Georgia Boller and Emmaline Bellamy; nine grandchildren, Mason, Maya, Madelyne, and Maddox Moten of Mooresville, Zyan Bozeman, Jaylen, and Nahla Moten of Wilmington, N.C., and Corban Johnson and Londyn Peterson of Statesville; mother-in-law, Peggy Lackey of Charlotte; special older relatives; a special “son,” Bruce Johnson, and “daughter,” Tiffany Johnson; special cousin, Gary Moten; and special friend Issac Johnson; along with a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Ronney was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering on the Washington Commanders (Redskins), Duke Blue Devils, and the Atlanta Braves. He served dutifully for many years as a sponsor for Narcotics Anonymous. Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the love and memories that will remain with us forever. Ronney’s spirit will live on in our hearts and he will be deeply missed.
Memorial service for Ronney Moten Jr. will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Christ Cathedral of Deliverance, 612 South Race Street, Statesville. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. and service to follow at 12 noon. Apostle Carl D. Lykes Sr. will officiate.
