Roy W. Ritter Jr., 83, of Harmony, N.C., passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, following a period of declining health.

Roy was born on April 16, 1941, in Guilford County, N.C., to the late Roy W. Ritter Sr. and Myrtle Morrison Ritter.

He was a high school graduate and served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1968, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He returned home to Greensboro, where he met and married Judy Crater in 1971. He was a self-employed farmer and enjoyed his work on the farm until retirement.

Roy loved fishing, whether at the coast or down by the river in Ashe County and enjoyed living on the farm. He was an active and faithful member of Winthrop Friends Meeting, where he served on the cemetery committee for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice R. Tidwell, and a brother, Larry Ritter.

Those left to cherish Roy’s memory are his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy Crater Ritter; elective son, Braulio Pina (Lissette); elective daughter, Blanca Lynn (Chris); grandchildren, Danilo Pina, Ashley Lynn, Daniel Pina, Savannah Lynn, David Pina, and Emily Lynn; long-time co-worker and friend, Valentina Ferretiz; brother, Barry Ritter (Donna); and godchildren, Eliza Campbell Kiser, Sarah Campbell Williams, Courtney Powers, Justin Powers, Jerica Galliher Miller, Byron Allison, Aaron Baggarly, and Sherri Baggarly Nawrocki.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at Winthrop Friends Meeting with Georgianne Hartline and Rev. Harold Salmons officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Winthrop Friends Meeting.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Campbell, Chris Lynn, Jimmy Powers, Kevin Grimaldi, Steve Renegar, Justin Powers and Aaron Baggarly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Roy’s memory to Winthrop Friends Meeting, c/o Sherri Nawrocki, 262 Winthrop Road, Harmony, NC 28634.
