Bill “Jake” Jakubowski, 81, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his three children, John (Susan Kissane), Kathy and Edward; his four grandchildren, Sarah (Destinee Santana), Emily (Ruben Weldon), James and Julia; and his two great- grandchildren, Hudson and Coleson.

Bill’s loving wife of 56 years predeceased him by four years. They resided happily in Mooresville for nine year after decades in retirement in Vermont, having moved there from their home state of New York.

Bill graduated from Valley Stream (N.Y.) High School in 1961. He worked in his father’s contracting business, StanJo Builders, before earning his Civil Servants license and beginning a long career in municipal town building departments as an Inspector and then Building Official and retiring as Head of the Building Department.

In retirement, Bill kept busy with the Lions Club and has been a Lion for more than 40 years, the Treasurer of Mooresville Lions for four years and President for a year. He also was a member of the local church participating in the Men of St. Therese (MOST) and Bible studies. He loved weekly greasy spoon visits for breakfast or lunch with friends and golfing once or twice a week.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Bill’s memory be made to the Lions, either Mooresville, N.C., or NorShaft in Vermont, your local Habitat for Humanity or the Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County for giving much comfort to the family during Phyllis’ illness four years prior.

The family expects to hold a service followed by light buffet meal on March 22, 2025, at Williamson’s Chapel in Mooresville, N.C.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family.
