To the Editor:
On December 2, Troutman Town Manager Ronald Wyatt attended the Mooresville Town Board of Commissioners meeting and proceeded to make a public statement in defense of Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney, who minutes earlier had been accused of “inappropriate and unethical conduct” by former commissioner Bobby Compton.
At the beginning of his public statement, Mr. Wyatt stated that he was at the meeting to “bring tidings and good will from the Town of Troutman.” He went on to say “my council asked me to come and make it known publicly that we appreciate how well” the two towns have worked together over the past year.
I have a question for my elected officials in Troutman: Did you really ask Mr. Wyatt to travel to Mooresville to “bring tidings and good will” on behalf of the council? If so, that is not what Mr. Wyatt delivered in his three-minute rant. It appears that his purpose at this meeting was to deflect the allegations made against Mayor Carney.
Mr. Wyatt embarrassed himself and the Troutman council when he made demeaning comments about Mr. Compton when he said “there is somebody who is convicted of assault, there’s somebody who is convicted of not taking care of their children, not taking care of their family.” How low must one go to bring up events from 30 years ago about an individual who has served his community with honor and dignity? Is Mr. Wyatt familiar with the old adage that “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones?”
Mr. Wyatt’s performance on December 2 was embarrassment to him, the Troutman’s elected officials and the residents of Troutman. Mr. Wyatt can say whatever he wants. It is called free speech. However, as the the town manager of Troutman, he should be held to a higher standard by the council and town residents. When is the Troutman council going to get this man under control? Mr. Wyatt needs to learn to stay in his own lane.

Troutman
Careful, Dan. You know Ron used to be in Special Forces, was the winner of many Tough-Man contests at the Mooresville NG Armory and has a couple notches on his pistol grips.
That’s a blatantly open threat to a towns person and should be taken as one. Troutman can’t even get their traffic under control let alone their elected officials. It’s a shame that a quiet small town is run by thugs. Always remember: Hugs not Thugs!
Though this comment is in support of Dan’s Letter to the Editor, I know it won’t be posted, considering everything I wrote has been made to other deputies IN MY PRESENCE years ago, but probably isn’t PC for the Iredell Free News.
Duck Wyatt does not belong in any political office. It would be best for all for him to resign.
That’s ‘Ole Duck for ya…
Not much has changed over the years with him ..
He still hasn’t learned that a big mouth doesn’t make a big man.
His ilk always get pushed down to size in the end….
Is there any actual evidence to support actions described as “inappropriate and unethical ” ? So far , all I have read are unfounded accusations . Show us hard facts instead of trying to smear the reputations of two individuals.
