To the Editor:
Many Christians are concerned about the lack of the teachings of Jesus in today’s Christianity. Many churches preach power and riches instead of feeding the poor or welcoming the stranger.
On Good Friday (April 18) from 5 until 7 p.m., we ask that those who ask the question “What would Jesus do?” gather for a solemn ceremony with friends to publicly profess our faith. Would Jesus send innocent people to prison? Would Jesus take school lunches away from children? Would Jesus take health care away from the sick?
We will have relevant Bible readings and prayers amongst ourselves, for our country and for the teachings of the man from Nazareth. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs with relevant scripture explaining what Jesus would or wouldn’t do. With our signs we will publicly profess to the world what we believe is the true meaning of being a Christian. All those who feel this way are welcome to attend.
We will gather at the Square in downtown Statesville (corner of Center & Broad streets). We hope some like-minded pastors and local congregations will also join us.
