Iredell-Statesville Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff James announced the following personnel appointments:
Student Services Division
Shayla Savage, executive director of Administrative Services, has been named the chief student services officer.
In her new role, Savage will serve as the leader of the Student Services Division, providing oversight to student discipline, Title IX, and the district behavior management team. She will also support the work of our school nurses and behavioral specialists.
“I am honored and ecstatic to serve as the chief student services officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools,” stated Savage. “I look forward to working with our fantastic students, esteemed staff, and supportive community while strengthening our partnerships to ensure the well-being and safety of all children.”
The creation of the Student Services Division will allow district administrators to provide more intentional support to schools and students, James said.
In addition to this new division, Jessica Smith, program director, has been named the director of Student Services and Family Support, and Mark Vaughn, alternative learning coordinator, has been named the director of Student Well-Being and Alternative Services.
Savage, Smith, and Vaughn will begin their new roles on June 1.
High Schools & CTE
Tim Woody, director of Career and Technical Education has been named the executive director of High Schools and Career and Technical Education.
Woody will continue his current duties while providing additional administrative support to high schools. He will begin his new position on June 1.
Operations Division
Mark Shinkaruk, principal at Third Creek Middle School has been named the chief operating officer. In this position, Shinkaruk will serve as the leader of the Operations Division, providing support to the technology, maintenance, construction, transportation, and school nutrition departments.
“I am very excited to step into the role of chief operations officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools. I look forward to building on our strong foundation and working collaboratively to continue providing an outstanding environment for teaching and learning,” explained Shinkaruk. “Together, we will strive to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency to support the academic success of all students.”
Shinkaruk will begin his new role on June 4.
The reorganization of the central office is as an effort to streamline the management structure to provide the best support to district schools, employees, and students, James explained.
The Board of Education approved these appointments on Monday, May 13.
