Ms. Lula Mae Rucker, 89, was born in Iredell County, N.C., on November 14, 1934, to the late James Garfield Rucker and Cornelia Scott Rucker. She departed this life on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Jurney’s Assisted Living of Statesville, N.C.

Lula attended Iredell County Schools and graduated high school in 1955. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an assembly worker with Tyson Foods. She loved to dance, watch TV, and go shopping. Lula never met a stranger and her laughter was contagious.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Rucker; one brother, Leonard Rucker; and two sisters, Gertrude Blackwell and Clara Daye.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life three sons, John Rucker, Stanley (Janet) Rucker, and Vincent Rucker; one daughter, Terrie Rucker; one brother, Milton Rucker; seven grandchildren, Darrell Rucker, Satoya Williams, Jarrod Redmond, JaQuail Rucker, Tayven Rucker, Nariyah Rucker, and Camiyah Rucker; three great grandchildren, Marques Dalton, Makayla Dalton, and Maliak Williams; one great-great grandchild, Kamar Dalton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Holsey Memorial CME Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the church and burial will follow in St. Joseph Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Michael D. Sharpe will officiate the service and Elder Christopher E. Daniels will deliver the eulogy.
